Last Week in Tainan
After an unforgettable indigo dyeing workshop, our journey through Tainan further deepened our understanding and appreciation for Taiwan’s cultural and creative richness. We were continually struck by the seamless blend of tradition and innovation that defines Tainan. Each day in this historic city offered us new insights, from its deep-rooted heritage to the modern creative spirit.
We spent our time exploring Tainan’s design and craft industries, where we encountered artisans who masterfully combined traditional techniques with modern technologies. From bamboo and wood workshops to innovative design spaces, we were inspired by the dedication to sustainability and craftsmanship. It was clear that Tainan values its history, while also embracing new ideas to push creative boundaries. The respect for nature and the use of local, sustainable materials in design made a lasting impression on us.
Tainan, with its blend of the old and the new, offered us not only a deeper understanding of design but also a chance to experience Taiwan’s cultural vibrancy firsthand. As we prepare to return to the University of Washington, we leave with a greater appreciation for the way tradition and modernity can coexist in harmony. The experiences and lessons we’ve gathered in Taiwan will undoubtedly influence our future work and perspectives, making this exchange a truly memorable chapter in our academic journey.
